Cult Frog Studios: Welcome to the Cult

Welcome to the Cult

What’s going on here?

Join me along my indie game development journey.

I wanted a platform to share my strange little projects. To start to build a community and to help aspiring developers learn and grow.

So periodically you’ll be able to find some whispers of devlogs popping up, explaining what I’ve been working on over the past couple of weeks (I’ll be aiming for fortnightly posts).

Eventually when I have the time, I’ll also be hosting some old portfolio projects and some demos for all to play around with.

Who’s lurking in the dark?

I’m a New Zealand based game developer looking for a bit more creative freedom. And genuine feedback on my work. With the classic dream (or nightmare) of wanting to release my own games.

I’ve been working professionally on HTML5 games for the last 3 or so years. But personally I mainly prefer working with an engine with a preference towards Unity. And I would absolutely love to start developing games for myself rather than working for a company.

I’ve been programming as a hobby for approximately 10 years now. with the main focus being on web development in the beginning and then moving on to game development with engines like Unity and Unreal Engine.

I’ll let you in on a secret

I plan to start development of a game concept that I’ve worked on for the past little bit. This 2d puzzle game will warp your view on who you really are. You can find out more here

Soon after I’ll start making little YouTube shorts just to show off aspects of the game and to potentially teach others new concepts and techniques.

About this site

For the fellow nerds out there, I thought you might be curious about this site’s tech stack.

Personally, I’ve been tinkering with Rust for the past several months. So it only felt appropriate to build this site from scratch using the Actix Web framework. With Tera templates. For the front end side I’ve just kept it simple with classic CSS, TypeScript with Alpine.js for some aspects.

Thanks for reading!

First proper devlog drops mid-January once freelance wraps.

Until then, Join the community and happy coding!
